Chicken Soup for the Soul Books Provide Humor During Covid

Chicken Soup Books Provide Humor During Covid Stacey GustafsonMonths ago, I submitted two stories to Chicken Soup for the Soul: Laughter Is the Best Medicine: 101 Feel Good Stories. I was overjoyed to learn they accepted both of my humorous stories.

If you would have told me a year ago that I would be published in a book series that has sold more than 110 million copies in the U.S. and Canada, sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, and has been translated into 43 languages, I would have told you that you were crazy.

Here’s their email as proof!

Dear Stacey,

Your story “Money Talks” has made it to the final selection round for Chicken Soup for the Soul: Laughter Is the Best Medicine. We are so appreciative of your participation and very excited about this book.

And then another email said, “I’m Going Straight to Hell” made the cut as well.

What’s Chicken Soup for the Soul: Laughter Is the Best Medicine: 101 Feel Good Stories?

Chicken Soup for the Soul’s first-ever humor collection, and the timing is perfect. This is storytelling at its funniest.

If laughter is the best medicine, then this book is your prescription. Turn off the news and spend a few days not following current events. Instead, return to the basics—humanity’s ability to laugh at itself.

Maybe you should even do a news cleanse for a few days! Hide under the covers and read these stories instead. Or read a chapter a day, or a story a day for 101 days. These pages contain the antidote to whatever is troubling you. They will definitely put you in a good mood.

No one is safe from our writers— from spouses to parents to children to colleagues and friends. And of course the funniest of all are the stories they tell about their own mishaps and those “most embarrassing moments.” There’s no holding anything back in these pages, so prepare for lots of good, clean (and not so clean) fun.Chicken Soup Books Provide Humor During Covid Stacey Gustafson

Times like these are when we could all use a little bit of laughter. I didn’t hold back in sharing my story in the new book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Laughter Is the Best Medicine.

Chicken Soup for the Soup: Laughter Is the Best Medicine

I’ve included my short excerpt and hope you pop over and buy a copy to keep.

Excerpt from Money Talks

My husband’s always nagging me, “We need to discuss our finances.” For me, this topic was about as exciting as Gwyneth Paltrow talking about a Himalayan smoothie and her non-toxic organic skincare line.

Just stop.

Saturday morning, I skidded into the room wearing my slipper socks and spied my husband parked on the sofa.

Perched on the edge of our sectional, surrounded by stacks of yellow notepads, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks and four pens neatly arranged at a right angle on the edge of the coffee table, he looked open for business. My heart raced.

Excerpt from I’m Going Straight to Hell

I will hurdle pews to avoid shaking hands during church service. It’s a germapobe’s nightmare.

Cold and flu season was at a peak. Public schools closed throughout the nation by the hundreds. People lined up at clinics for vaccines like they were giving away tickets to a Rolling Stones reunion tour.

“Maybe we should skip church today,” I said to my husband. “You know, more people seem sicker than usual.”

“I’m sure it will be fine,” he said, grabbing our coats.

Yeah, right.

At church, even the pastor suffered a malady. “Good morning everyone,” he coughed. With watery eyes, he continued, “Let’s stand for a prayer.”

Help me survive today.

I struggled to hear the service above all the hacking, sneezing, and throat clearing. Lozenges were passed around like jello shots. It was a veritable witch’s brew of germs and I frantically searched for a way out before the sign of peace.
